Holiday Celebrations 2008

Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year's 2008

Happy Birthday Emma!

Enjoy!

It has been a while, almost a month since I've posted anything. I thought I would make good on sharing pictures from our recent celebrations and fun. I don't have much from Spring Break, hopefully Mom will e-mail me some of her pictures from their visit. When I get a chance or the photos, I'll be sure to post a few. For now, I hope you enjoy some Turner fun!

Crawfish and Friends!

Creepy, Crawly, Yummy!

Our good friends, Rick and Mairim, invited us to join in their growing tradition officially opening the crawfish season and celebrating Rick's birthday! It just so happens his birthday is the day before Miles and Taylor's so this cause for celebration was a big deal. As you can see from the pictures we had a lot of food and a lot of fun. I have never seen so many creepy crawly creatures in my life, and I'm told they grow to be a lot bigger! After some expert lessons from my Louisiana native neighbors I was pinching, pulling, peeling, and sucking just like the rest of them. I have to say, the eats were delicious, but the time spent with friends was even better!

A pile of food!

Eating crawfish in a white shirt, not recommended!

Chef's Taylor and Miles! They cooked three batches (over 150 lbs) of crawfish!

Today's Motivation

I've been working on this for a while. I don't have any pictures to post, I honestly miss my little digital camera. I have so many small details of our every day lives I would love to share with you all, but alas I am left with only words.

Yesterday Jamie and I convinced the boys to wash my van, inside and out, re-mulch the front landscaping (we helped) and then we went for donuts. After a very successful morning, we put on a three hour concert featuring The Turner Family on Rock Band. Ah Rock Band, it has been such a long time since we played together like that and it was a lot of fun.

This time I did not sing, not even one song! I only played the bass and I'm moving up to Medium! This is quite a feat since I swore I would never play the instruments. Somewhere in cyberworld there is a picture of me playing, but I don't have it to share.

This weekend went by so fast. The weeks are passing more quick than ever. I know that isn't physically possible, but it feels like time is just flying. We are already into March! Miles and Taylor celebrate their birthday in just over one week! My mom will be here to visit soon! And school is keeping me so busy I hardly have time to breathe.

Last week was one of the most difficult weeks I have experienced since I began substitute teaching. I was with kindergarten two days last week. I realized something about myself that I never thought possible, I do not have the patience for kindergarten. I admire the women who choose to teach these loving and energetic children. I know it isn't the children, it is me.

What a hard pill to swallow, knowing there are little people who only want to play and are excited about learning, but I don't know what to do to manage all of them. I talked with some of the teachers and later on the principal and realized it really is OK. I was reassured by teaching in a third grade class which gave me such problems the first time I substituted and we had a wonderful and productive day. I realized I have an affinity toward the older students. Third grade wouldn't be my first choice, but I know I could teach them and find joy in it every day.

Every day I walk into a classroom I am more and more motivated to find a way back to college to complete my degree and teach full time. I can honestly say, I don't know why I took so long to get here, to know this is where I belong, but I am glad I have finally figured out what I want to do when I grow up.
